Katriel Jay Worrall
Creative Technologist
I consider 'my field' to be anything that involves telling stories; whether it be through writing, music, character design, costume design, animation, the building of games, etc.
Throughout my degree so far I have worked in many teams - as well as working solo, and have discovered that I tend to be the one never lacking in ideas. I am extremely driven, keen to tackle any hurdles we might face, and quick to discuss and take action if my team is falling behind or experiencing a loss in motivation. I do, however, ensure that I do not 'take over' when it isn't my place to do so. I also value and readily listen to the input of each team member.
Throughout more explorative and less predictable projects - such as the creation of Darling - I have learned that while my restlessness in the projects I tackle do help keep me on track, I must let go of it when a project calls for less forced evolution. Working on Darling, in fact, has taught me a great deal in the art of teamwork.
Bartender || Waimauku RSA
2015 - 2016 Summer Holiday
I volunteered here for a few weeks, and received valuable customer-service training in return. As a non-drinker, I personally had a great deal to learn (I did not know what anything was at first!), and it was an immensely rewarding experience. It was also here that I learned how to operate a till.
Vet Assistant || Dr Bob's Veterinary Clinic, Waimauku
2015 - 2016 Summer Holiday
I was lucky enough to have the incredible experience of volunteering here as well - around the same time that I was working at the Waimauku RSA. I worked hard cleaning vacant cages, food and water bowls and even surgical equipment. As a result I have discovered that I do not have any fear of blood. I also assisted the vet nurses with animal handling and taking sick and injured dogs out for bathroom breaks.
Shop Assistant || Katelyn & Co, Devonport
2016 Summer Holiday & Beginning of University Year
I volunteered here at the start of 2016; setting up and packing down a sweet clothing shop in Devonport. I kept the shop neat and tidy, sold pre-loved and upcycled designer garments to customers, and helped prepare pre-loved shirts for upcycling into Katelyn & Co's 'Wingman Shirts.'
AUT (Auckland University of Technology)
2015 - Present
I am currently a student here - in my 2nd year of a 3-year course - studying for the Bachelor of Creative Technologies.
